CPAP or continuous positive air pressure is the most common effective treatment for sleep apnea. Room air is delivered to a certain pressure, determined at your sleep study. It is measured in cmH20. This pressure will keep your airway open to stop your obstructive events. Bilevel is another way to deliver air pressure, but instead of one constant pressure, there are two. One higher pressure is delivered on inhalation, a lower pressure on exhalation. This treatment is effective for patients that cannot tolerate CPAP or may have very high pressures.
